Reward Offered in Dog Shooting Case

Black lab shot with a hunting arrow is recovering from four-hour surgery.

The Atlanta Humane Society is offering a $2500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who in the front yard of a Tucker home last Saturday.

Siddie, a two-year-old black Labrador Retriever, was seriously wounded in the attack and underwent emergency surgery at the University of Georgia this week.

β€œThis is a horrific act of animal cruelty,” said William Shaheen, president of Atlanta Humane Society. β€œIt is imperative that those responsible for this terrible act are caught so that we can prevent this from happening in another neighborhood, to another family."

The reward fund, furnished by the Holland M. Ware Charitable Trust, encourages
tips leading to the arrest and conviction of persons responsible for animal cruelty.

Siddie is recovering from four hours of surgery to remove the arrow and repair severe injuries. She is expected to be released from hospital today, according to CBS News.

β€œWe are thankful that she survived and can continue to be a loving companion to her family, but not all animals are as fortunate,” Shaheen said.

The dog's owner, Kirby Vanderyt, said in an email: "This is serious. I am heartbroken and so concerned for all of our safety."

Shaheen added: "it is our hope that the reward will encourage citizens to do the right thing and report anyone who is treating animals unkindly."
