UPDATE: Scooter Rider Killed on Lawrenceville Highway

Early morning collision with a pickup truck killed a woman, not a man as previously reported.

An accident in Tucker this morning claimed the life of a woman riding a scooter, contrary to earlier reports stating the victim was a man.

The original article was based on a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Tucker Patch received a call this afternoon from a friend of the victim who declined to give his full name, nor the name of the woman. "Some of her family don't know about this yet," he said. He told Patch that he wanted to clarify victim's gender because "it just adds insult to injury."Β

The wreck happened around 6 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Lawrenceville Highway and Steel Drive, the paper reported.

A Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, traveling eastbound, struck the rider while attempting to turn left into Steel Drive. "He didn’t see the scooter coming in his direction, turned into it and struck the scooter,” DeKalb Police Lt. B.K. DeLoach told the AJC.
