1. Today's heat index could rise above 100 in portions of north Georgia, including in Cherokee County. According to the National Weather Service, much of the region may see excessive heat as well as scattered thunderstorms, prompting the issuance of a "hazardous weather outlook." Residents in Woodstock-Towne Lake and the surrounding area are encouraged to keep hydrated, stay indoors when possible, and avoid leaving pets and people in locked vehicles. (Cobb County Courier)
2. If you're looking to observe "Get Outdoors Month" in the Atlanta/northwest Georgia area, Newsbreak recommends walking in Woodstock. Park downtown and tackle the three-mile Noonday Creek greenway trail, or stop by the Main Street visitor's center for a map of the city's 1.7-mile self-guided history hike.
