2 Cherokee County Firefighters Promoted

Shane West was named chief of Field Operations while Kevin Lanier was appointed to the post of battalion chief.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Two Cherokee County firefighters were promoted on Friday, June 30 ahead of the 2017 Fire Recruit graduation ceremony held at River Ridge High School.

Shane West was promoted to post of Field Operations chief, replacing Greg Erdely, who retired earlier this year. West started with the fire department on Sept. 25, 1995. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2001 and became a lieutenant in 2003. Three years later West became a captain and then took on the role of battalion chief on Dec. 11, 2011.

Replacing West as battalion chief is Kevin Lanier. Lanier began his career with Cherokee County fire on Oct. 30, 2000. He was promoted to sergeant in 2003 and lieutenant in 2006. Lanier has been a captain since Dec. 22, 2011.
