Woodstock Welcomes New Boy Scout Troop

Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques officially welcomed new Boy Scout Troop 6410 on Saturday, August 18th. Mayor Henriques spoke to the brand new pack at their official crossover ceremony by thanking them for their past service as Cub Scouts and welcoming them to the next step of their journey, becoming a Boy Scout.  The main difference between Cub and Boy Scouts is that Boy Scouts is a youth-oriented program aimed primarily at 11-18 year olds. It is run by the scouts, for the scouts, and the adults play a smaller supporting role then they did for Cub Scouts.  Following the big ceremony, the boys camped at the Allatoona Aquatics Base and began their first steps on their path to success.

Troop 6410 is a new Boy Scout Troop in the Cherokee Pickens District of the Atlanta Area Council.  Although new, the Troop has a great deal of experience in both leadership and youth members. Scoutmaster Lee Torbush said, “We strive to be youth led although some adult guidance is needed. Our goal is to provide a safe environment for boys to reach their full potential as leaders and community members. This goal will be accomplished through the values of scouting, empowering each boy to have a hand in their own destiny as scouts. This empowerment helps young boys develop independence, confidence, and self reliance.”

The new troop meets every Tuesday night at His Hands Church in Woodstock and welcomes visitors to come find out what scouting is all about. If you would like more information about scouting at Troop 6410, please contact Scoutmaster Lee Torbush at torbushscout@gmail.com or 770-598-0494.
