The initiative will take place April 1 through June, 1, and Woodstock residents may notice some temporary discoloration in the water.

The discoloration of water, which the city says will not harm an individual, but could stain light-colored clothing, is the result of sediment present in waterlines being “stirred up” during the testing.

As part of testing procedures, the agency will flow each hydrant until the water is clear; however smaller water lines that lead to each house may still have cloudy water. This condition may be remedied by flowing water from the tap until it is clear.

Fire hydrant maintenance is important in order to ensure the city has properly working hydrants. The Fire Department performs this maintenance each year, which also involves painting, flowing and greasing the devices.

This procedure is a component of the I.S.O. (Insurance Service Office) rating. If you have any additional questions, please contact Fire Marshal Jimmy Eley at 770-926-2896.
