Another Jury Duty Scam Surfaces in Cherokee
A report was taken Friday of a man, posing as a sheriff's deputy, who told a woman a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Woodstock, GA -- The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is once again reminding residents about a scam that continues to arise, despite multiple warnings in the past.

Deputies took a report on Friday from a would be victim received a phone call from a male claiming to be a Cherokee Sheriff’s deputy.
The caller allegedly told the woman she had an active warrant for her arrest for “failure to show up” for grand jury duty.

He then told the woman the warrant could be dismissed if she went to Western Union and wired $317 to an account.
Fortunately, she did not fall for the scam and called 911.
“Please know that under no circumstance will any deputy or any employee of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office ever call and request that you wire or send money, nor will they ever ask for credit card information from you,“ the agency said. “If this happens to you or a family member it is a scam and should be reported.”
The agency noted the scam “often targets” elderly residents, so citizens are strongly encouraged to share this information with as many senior citizens as possible.
