UPDATE: Body Found in Allatoona Lake

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office said that a body of a woman was found in the water near the Kellogg Creek Day Use Area at 11:38 a.m. Sunday.

UPDATE (3:00 p.m.): The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office has released additional information on the body discovered in Allatoona Lake on Sunday.

Jay Baker, Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said that sheriff’s deputies responded to the Kellogg Creek Day Use Area in reference to a call regarding the body of a woman floating in Allatoona Lake at 11:38 a.m. The call was made by a boater on the lake.

Baker said that the woman’s body was discovered near the beach area in approximately three feet of water approximately 20 feet from the shore. Authorities estimate the woman was in the water for less than 24 hours.

The woman is described as having red hair and multiple tattoos on her body. No missing persons reports have been filed which match her description.

ORIGINAL STORY (1:00 p.m.): Cherokee County authorities are investigating a probable drowning on Allatoona Lake Sunday morning.

WSB-TV reported that county officials have confirmed the discovery of a body. The body was discovered around noon, according to WSB-TV.

The entrance to the lake is closed while the investigation is carried out.
