Here are the top five stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- A local woman has been indicted by a Cherokee County grand jury after allegedly taking money from a Boy Scouts troop in Woodstock. Cathryn Ann Shay, 55, was serving as the treasurer for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 641 when officials say she took at least $25,000 of the organization's funds for personal expenditures. She faces charges of theft by taking and two counts of identity fraud, according to an indictment filed earlier this month. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
- Two men have been sentenced for a pair of armed robberies that occurred in Cherokee County in 2020. Prosecutors say that in two separate incidents that year, 28-year-old Eric Jordan Elam and 20-year-old Troy Williams Fiddes set up marijuana purchases and robbed two different victims at gunpoint. A victim shot during the second robbery survived and was able to help law enforcement identify the suspects. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
- The North Georgia Health District will offer free HIV testing next Monday, Jun. 27, in honor of National HIV Testing Day. Walk-in testing will be available at The Living Bridge Center in Canton and at the Cherokee County Health Department clinics. The testing sites will also offer a variety of complementary items such as condoms, cups, stickers, and more. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
- Irwin Naturals Inc. has entered into a binding agreement to acquire two Invictus Clinic locations in Woodstock and nearby Atlanta. The acquisition is part of the company's ongoing effort to expand its chain of psychedelic mental health centers across the nation. The deal will make Georgia the fourth state to join the Emergence by Irwin Naturals brand. (Financial Post)
