The first day of school is approaching for Cherokee County Schools. Here are some other important dates to take note of for the new year.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — The first bell on the 2019-20 school year is about to ring and that means parents need to get their calendars in order. The first day of school for Cherokee County Schools is Thursday, Aug. 1 — and whether you and the kids are looking forward to the new school year or are dreading the end of summer, you'll want to mark the date on your calendar ASAP.

To help out, we've compiled a listing of important dates in the coming year. The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, teacher workdays and federal holidays.

  • Professional learning for teachers: July 26
  • First day of school: Aug. 1
  • Labor Day: Sept. 2
  • School holiday: Sept. 23-27
  • Teacher work day/Columbus Day: Oct. 14
  • Professional development day: Nov. 5
  • Thanksgiving break: Nov. 25-29
  • Last day of first semester: Dec. 20
  • Winter break: Dec. 23- Jan. 3
  • Teacher workday: Jan. 6
  • First day of second semester: Jan. 7
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday: Jan. 20
  • Presidents' Day: Feb. 17
  • Student holiday: Feb. 17-21
  • Spring break: April 6-10
  • Memorial Day: May 25
  • Last day of school: May 28
  • Teacher post-planning: May 29, June 1
