Council To Weigh Alcohol Waiver For Festival

The fourth annual Woodstock Art & Wine Festival will be held Nov. 3-4

The Woodstock City Council will consider waiving parts of its alcohol ordinance on Monday.

The council will hold a called meeting and work session to consider a waiver to allow the serving and consumption of alcohol at the Park at City Center and to temporarily close East Main Street just north of Arnold Mill Road for patron safety.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Chambers at City Center.

The event will have a contained wine-tasting garden with up to 40 selections. Attendees must pay $25 and wear a wristband to be admitted to the garden. Co-sponsored by Main Street Woodstock, the event is slated to draw between 2,000 and 3,000 people.

  • review and give direction on requesting the Georgia Department of Transportation to transfer funds from the city's proposed transportation enhancement (TE) grant slated to fund the North Main Streetscapes project to an extension of the current streetscape on Main between Oak St and Fowler Street;
  • hear a 10-year update on the city's Livable Centers Initiaitve plan;
  • hear an update on the process to change its fiscal year from July 1-June 30 to Oct. 1-Sept. 30;
  • hear a presentation on CMA, Inc., which is proposing to work with the city and different wireless providers to establish wireless coverage based on minicell towers that support and enhance wireless coverage based on street lights, poles and/or building-based towers rather than the large towers currently in use;
  • hear a presentation on software called Public Stuff;
  • and hear an update on possible revisions to the planning commission ordinance, which would allow members to take a leave of absense
