Detective Graduates From National Forensic Academy

Ronald Hughes with the Woodstock Police Department recently completed the 10-week, 400 hour course.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- A detective with the Woodstock Police Department has graduated from the National Forensic Academy at the University of Tennessee.

Ronald Hughes, a 10-year veteran with Woodstock police, recently completed an intensive 10-week course of instruction at the NFA designed to increase knowledge of evidence identification, collection and preservation.

During this 400-hour course, Hughes studied 230 hours in the field honing his skills in 31 separate areas of study including death investigation, courtroom testimony, DNA, bloodstain analysis and trace evidence.

With the knowledge, skills and abilities gained through the instruction, "Hughes brings back to the department a wealth of gained experience to help the Woodstock Police Department continue to serve our city at a high standard," Woodstock police said.

The National Forensic Academy, a program funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, was developed by leading forensic practitioners from across the United States. The program is offered through the University of Tennessee's Institute for Public Service.
