Bells Ferry Road Reopens After Crews Repair Fallen Power Lines

The road was closed the majority of Friday just north of Highway 92 in southwest Cherokee County.

Bells Ferry Road reopened to vehicular traffic Friday evening, several hours after an accident involving construction equipment brought down power lines across the major thoroughfare.

All lanes of Bells Ferry Road just north of Highway 92 near Woodstock closed before 9 a.m. Feb. 5 when equipment belonging to a construction crew ”clipped a guide wire, which began a chain reaction that resulted in at least two power poles snapping and multiple power lines to fall across all lanes of Bells Ferry Road,” Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said.

“When it occurred, at least three cars had wires across them,” he added.

That forced the agency to close the highway for several hours on Friday, a move that drastically affected commuting patterns across the southern portion of the county.

Utility crews initially estimated the lines could be removed and repaired in two hours, but that was later revised to a six- to eight-hour time frame.
