Habitat Impacts Seniors and Veterans in Cherokee County

Habitat North Central Georgia repair program assists seniors and veterans in Cherokee County.

Habitat North Central Georgia began a new Home Repair Program in 2014 to serve existing homeowners with minor repairs, weatherization and critical repair needs. In the second full year of the program, 18 low-income seniors and honorably discharged veterans were assisted in Cherokee and North Fulton Counties. In 2016, Habitat assisted veterans from World War II, Vietnam, Korea, returning veterans, families with disabled children, and elderly families who have been living without HVAC for years, with roof leaks, with unsafe ramps and steps, and with structural damage. All of our families have a different story to tell, but one fact is the same…the need is great and the funds are tight. Through the Home Repair Program, in partnership with several organizations, Habitat was able to complete all the needed repairs. The families now have homes that are safe and healthy, which allow them to stay in their home for years to come.

Special thanks to Altisource, American Legion Post 45 and 315, Amicalola EMC, Cobb EMC, Cherokee County CDBG, Cherokee County Homeless Veterans, Cherokee County Senior Services, Church of the Messiah, Home Depot, Hickory Flat UMC, Lowe’s, North Fulton Senior Services, Roswell Rotary Club, Roswell United Methodist Church, Saint Peter Chanel Catholic Church, and Thrivent Financial for providing funds and volunteers to make our families homes safe and livable once again.

Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia is accepting applications for the Home Repair Program in Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth and North Fulton Counties. About Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia

Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low- to moderate-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has completed 287 homes serving over 1075 family members in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Each family is required to attend six educational classes and perform 200-300 sweat equity hours. Families earn between 30% and 60% of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes from Habitat which provides them with a 30-year, no-interest loan. Family members work side by side with the volunteers, sponsors, and Habitat staff to build their homes. These families not only get to experience the pride of homeownership but they also know that their lives will be changed forever. In addition to new home construction, Habitat North Central Georgia started a home repair program in 2014. To date, 30 repair projects have been completed serving veterans and seniors.
