ICYMI: Cops Seize More Than 1 Pound Of Meth During Traffic Stop

A Cherokee sheriff's deputy had knowledge that the driver had a revoked driver's license and a warrant out for his arrest.

ACWORTH, GA -- A routine traffic stop conducted Tuesday afternoon led to deputies recovering methamphetamine and marijuana from a vehicle.

A deputy with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office conducted the traffic stop March 22 on Highway 92 near Woodstock Road in unincorporated Acworth.

The deputy "had prior knowledge that the driver," 44-year-old Jose Valdez-Rodriguez, had an active warrant for his arrest and a revoked driver's license, sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

Baker said Valdez-Rodriguez was immediately placed under arrest, and a small amount of methamphetamine was found in the motorist's pants pockets.

During a subsequent search of his vehicle, deputies discovered over a pound of methamphetamine and less than an ounce of marijuana packaged for sale inside the car.

Valdez-Rodriguez was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, driving with a revoked license and probation violation.

He remains in custody without bond at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.
