Good morning, neighbors. It's me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Woodstock-Towne Lake Daily — here to tell you everything you need to know about what's happening locally. Without further ado...

First, today's weather:

A heavy t-storm in the p.m. High: 96 Low: 76.

Here are the top 5 stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. Woodstock has announced plans for its annual Fourth of July festivities. In addition to the 25th annual Woodstock Freedom Run on Main Street, the holiday will include a parade at 10:00 a.m., followed by a festival at The Park at City Center. This year's fireworks display will begin at dusk behind the Lowes shopping center at Ga. 92 and I-575. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  2. Investigators have released the identity of a suspect who was shot and killed by undercover narcotics agents during a drug sting in Cherokee County earlier this week. The man has been identified as 35-year-old Normiez Reeves of Riverdale, and officers say they were poised to arrest him for trafficking heroin and fentanyl when the incident occurred. It marks the first agent-involved shooting for the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad since 1993.(FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. A new luxury housing community is coming to nearby East Cobb, and developers have announced the grand opening of its model home. The homes in Edgewood East will begin in the low $900,000s and will feature open concept floor plans ranging from 3,675 to 4,693 square feet. The location is central to shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities in downtown Woodstock, as well as East Cobb and Roswell. (GuruFocus.com)
  4. Cherokee County is offering a range of summer camps for children and teens. This year's camps include Teen Outdoor Adventure Camp, Waterlogged Camp, Outdoor Camp, and Softball Camp. Registration is open online now at PlayCherokee.org. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

Are you a Woodstock-Towne Lake resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
