“What child hasn’t dreamt of becoming a police officer, a firefighter or an EMT?,” Tustian asked. “In the innocent child’s mind, the courage to face the dangers of those noble, sacrificial professions is sparked playing pretend with the toys designed to honor those who commit their lives to the service of others. Those men and women who have the courage to face unknown dangers to serve and protect their families, friends and communities are our true heroes.”
Tustian presented the check to Chad Arp, lead advisor for Safe Kids Cherokee, which provides educational information to parents and caretakers on how to prevent child injuries.
The organization hosts regular child passenger seat informational sessions throughout the calendar year for local residents.
“This painting was a wonderful fit for Safe Kids Cherokee,“ Arp said. “ We have many professionals in public safety that work with our organization and who are featured in Brenda’s painting. We appreciate Brenda’s donation and we also appreciate her dedication in supporting public safety.”
The model of Santa Claus painting is Tim Cavender, who currently serves as the public information officer for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.
Cavender has portrayed Santa for over 40 years and was inducted into the International Santa Claus Hall of Fame in New York in April 2015.
