Police in Cobb County are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident involving a driver from Woodstock.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, a grey 2002 Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound on Busbee Parkway south of Chastain Road in unincorporated Kennesaw while a group of four pedestrians were trying to cross the road.
At around 12:02 a.m. Sunday, one of the four pedestrians “stepped into the southbound lanes of travel in front of the Toyota and was struck,” the agency said in its press release, adding it’s unknown why the pedestrian stepped into the travel lane.

The driver of the 4Runner, Jordan D. Padgett, 24, of Woodstock, was not injured. The pedestrian, identified as 25-year old Chelsea A. Tucker of Lizella, was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the incident remains under investigation by Cobb police, the agency did say they believe alcohol is a factor in the accident and charges are not expected to be filed.
