Proposed Subdivisions Meet Last Hurdle Tonight

The Woodstock City Council tonight will vote on two requests from Oak Hall Companies LLC to build two new residential subdivisions in the city.

The Woodstock City Council will decide the fate of two proposals from one company to build new homes in the city limits.

The council tonight will consider two requests from Oak Hall Companies, LLC to build new homes in the city during its called meeting and work session, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Chambers at City Center.

One request is for the city to annex and rezone about 82.5 acres of land at the intersection of Barnes and Trickum roads from R-40/residential and agricultural in Cherokee County to R-3A to allow for 196 single family detached homes on the land.

That petition has been met with reservation by some area residents, and the Cherokee County Commission agreed not to file a formal objection if the company agreed to some stipulations to mitigate the accompanied growth.

Agreeing to the county's requests forced the company to slightly scale back its proposal to just under 200 homes.

Another is to rezone 17.05 acres of land along Ragsdale Road to build 51 single-family residential homes.

The property was originally rezoned in 2006 for an active adult, gated townhome community that was to be called StoneLedge. The property is partially developed with curb cuts, decorative lighting and streets, but no homes have been built.

The Woodstock Planning Commission on Nov. 7 voted to recommend approval of both requests.
