While mowing his lawn at home, Arena heard the panicked cries of a neighbor. When checking to see what happened, Arena found a friend of the neighbor's son unconscious and unresponsive inside the neighbor's home. When it was suspected the victim was suffering from a heroin overdose, Arena administered a dose of Naloxone to the patient.

Emergency crews arrived at the home to take over medical care, and transported the 25-year-old male to an area hospital for treatment. He was subsequently released.

The awards were given out by major William Smith.
