CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce has announced that they will be accepting applications for the Teen Leadership Cherokee Class of 2020 until Thursday, Oct. 10. Students must be in 10th grade to apply. The mission of Teen Leadership Cherokee, which graduated its first class in 2001, is to develop the knowledge and leadership skills of young people, so they may confidently become our leaders of tomorrow. Teen Leadership Cherokee accomplishes this mission by offering a series of class sessions exploring topics such as community involvement, personal development, team building and educational and economic responsibility.

“Participation in Teen Leadership Cherokee will demonstrate that in this transient society, a diverse group of people working together, rather than individually, can be effective in solving the problems faced by the community. Participants will develop a sense of community and discover the impact of teamwork with their peers, their school and Cherokee County,” stated Cherokee County Chamber President & CEO, Pam Carnes.

The young men and women selected to participate in Teen Leadership Cherokee must attend school in Cherokee County and/or live in Cherokee County, demonstrate outstanding qualities as potential leaders and possess the desire to effect change in their community. Each class will be representative of the diversity within Cherokee County with applications being accepted from students in the Cherokee County School District, along with those who attend private school or are home-schooled. Participants’ academic achievements, active participation in school functions, membership in other organizations and responsibilities such as working after school will be reviewed during the selection process. The class is limited to 20 participants.
