Weekend Pigskin Roundup: Knights Score 58

Each Monday we'll take a look at what happened on the gridiron over the weekend in Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch.

River Ridge 58, Cross Keys 0 – threw just two passes in Friday’s 58-point shellacking on the road and moved to a perfect 4-0 on the season. Austin Terrell led the way for the Knights, according to the Cherokee Tribune, with 135 yards and two touchdowns, but the coaching staff still thinks this team can improve.

"We started off with a bang," said River Ridge head coach Robert Braucht. "But in reality we had a couple of series there where we didn't take care of doing fundamentals. At the same time we were able to get back out on the field and do what we were supposed to be doing." ()

Woodstock 7, Cherokee 0 – The Wolverines had just one score in them on Friday, luckily their defense showed up to make that one score stand. Stepping in for an injured Pryce Washington, Jonathan Weiner led to victory.

"That's one of those wins that's a really hard win," said Woodstock backup quarterback Weiner. "All our boys pulled it out, the close ones are the best ones and the most fun." ()

Walton 31, Etowah 17 – On defense, the Eagles couldn’t stop Walton running back Tyren Jones who beat both on the ground and through the air on the receiving end. The Etowah coaching staff still thinks the Eagles aren’t playing up to their full capabilities.

"Mentally we let the game get away from us," said Etowah head coach Bill Stewart. "Our guys just have to prepare better to play the game mentally." ()
