WHS Soccer Wins First Region Game

The WHS girls soccer team faces Milton High this Thursday at home at 5:55 p.m.

Friday March, 2: vs. Alpharetta at Alpharetta (non-region game)

The game was at 5:55 p.m., and we actually were lucky to get it in due to the storms that were rolling in that night. On the other hand, it might have been better if we didn't play because my girls didn't play well. won the game 4-0, and they have a good team. They were ranked 8th in the state that night.

To be honest with you, there's not much to report on this game because we didn't play well, and Alpharetta had a lot to do with that. My goalie Abbey Booz did have nine saves on the night. We only managed to get a couple shots off on them. They controlled the possession of play pretty much the whole night and were on our half a lot. They scored the first goal in the first half with about eight minutes to go.

It was a break down of communication by my back four and the goalie came out to help and No. 5 for them just kicked it up in the air over my goalie and one of my outside defenders tried to slide back into the goal, but they were too late. They scored three more goals in the second half. That was our first loss on the season which put us at 3-1 overall.

  • 4th Goal was scored by No. 8 Caitlin Tongco (38 minute mark in half). The assist goes to No. 2 Sam Thomas.
  • 5th Goal was scored by No. 4 Sierra Jameson (23 minute mark in half). The assist goes to No. 2 Sam Thomas.
  • 6th Goal was scored by No. 8 Caitlin Tongco (18 minute mark in half). The assist goes to No. 7 Natalie Leone.

We didn't play well in the first 30 minutes of the first half, but we played extremely well the last 10 minutes of the first half, and it carried over to the second half. We pretty much controlled the ball the whole night and played on their side of the field for 95 percent of the game. They only got off a handful of shots the whole night.

Abbey Booz started out in goalie and played the first half and the first five minutes of the second half. She had one save during that time. I then put Hailey Hannigan, senior, in for 25 minutes, and she recorded three saves during that time.

To finish out the last 10 minutes of the game, I put in Justy Moulton, junior, and she had 0 saves. I was able to play everyone which is always a good thing. I thought Natalie Leone, Megan Spacht, Callie Marvin and Jordan Barham all played well which that is my four defenders. I also thought Ashton Tongco and Stevi Rich played very effective.

We play this Thursday at home at 5:55 p.m. which is a non-region game, and then we move back into region play next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
