Woman Charged With Attempted Armed Robbery

The suspect is accused of walking up to a check cashing store window, and passing a note demanding money and threatening to fire a handgun.

ACWORTH, GA -- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has charged an Acworth woman with trying to rob a check cashing store early Friday morning.

Deputies were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. March 31 to a call at Atlanta Check Cashers at 6643 Highway 92 in Acworth.

It was reported a woman approached the window with a note demanding money. The suspect also claimed she had a gun and "would fire the weapon," said sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

No weapon was displayed and the clerk refused to give the woman any money. She fled the store and area in a dark-colored Ford Taurus.

A short time later, deputies on patrol spotted the vehicle on Gregory Lane and conducted a traffic stop. Detectives were able to determine that the driver of the passenger vehicle, 31-year-old Shantay Wallace of Acworth, was the suspect from the attempted robbery.

Investigators are processing the Taurus and executing a search warrant at her apartment.

Wallace has been booked in to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center one one count of criminal attempt to commit armed robbery.

She remains held without bond.
