Woodstock City-Wide Yard Sale Returns April 20-22

Woodstock will also hold its annual electronics recycling and document shredding event on Saturday, April 21.

WOODSTOCK, GA — If you live in the city limits of Woodstock and have a few items around the house you want to get rid of, the upcoming City-Wide Yard Sale may provide the perfect opportunity clear out some clutter.

The city's annual initiative will be held April 20-22 and is part of the annual Great American Cleanup campaign. That effort mobilizes millions of volunteers who encourage environmental stewardship and care for the community. Efforts in litter prevention and removal, waste reduction, recycling, beautification, and community greening result in cleaner, greener, safer and more beautiful public spaces.

Woodstock residents can visit the city's website and submit your address for consideration. There is no cost to participate, and residents are encouraged to put up individual signs for days, hours and directions. Of course, be sure to remove your signs immediately after your sale so you can reuse them for next year's event). Addresses for the yard sale ads will be accepted until April 11.

The yard sales will be advertised on the city's website, Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News (the county's legal organ), Park at City Center kiosk, email blasts, the city's main website and Facebook page, Parks and Recreation Department's site and Facebook page and CraigsList. Only your address and subdivision will appear in the advertisements.

After your sale, if you have clothing, bedding, shoes, towels, stuffed animals, belts, hats, purses, and backpacks leftover, please consider donating them for reuse or recycling at any USAgain bin location.

The city will also celebrate its annual Greenstock Day by hosting an electronic recycling and document shredding event on Saturday, April 21 at Woodstock Elementary School. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. you can drop off various electronics, cell phones and batteries.

All equipment will be broken down by Secure Recycling and processed so it can be reused. Collections will be done free of charge, except for TV’s and CRT monitors, which will be accepted for $25. LCD monitors will e taken for $5.

Cell phones will be collected for the Cell Phones for Soldiers Program, which provide overseas service members with 60 minutes of prepaid calling service so they can stay in touch with their families. Other items accepted include compact fluorescent light bulbs, eyeglasses, hearing aids, magazines and newspapers, clothing, shoes, belts, hats, betting, towels, curtains, purses and backpacks.

Please note that light bulbs must be in a clear plastic, sealed bag before they can be accepted. The city will not accept long, tubular-style of fluorescent bulbs.

If you want to destroy some sensitive papers, Georgia Document Destruction will be on site to shred all of your confidential documents. There will be a limit of five boxes per car. For business shredding service, please call 770-516-6500.
