Woodstock Freedom Fest Also Means Road Closures

The city will shutter access to several roads to accommodate an early morning race, festival and firework display.

The city of Woodstock's Freedom Fest next week will mean residents will have to find alternate routes to make their way throughout the city.

The Woodstock Police Department will be closing roads and will come up with a "traffic control plan" to prepare for the events.

Starting at 7:15 a.m., Main Street and Rope Mill Road will be closed from Highway 92 to Woodstock Elementary School for the Freedom Run Race, which is set to begin at 7:30 a.m.

At 8:30 a.m., Main Street and Rope Mill Road re-open briefly prior to the start of the parade. However, both roads will close again at 9:45 a.m. for the parade and are expected to re-open at 11:30 a.m.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. and its participants will travel along Main Street and Rope Mill Road from Highway 92 to Woodstock Elementary School. After the parade, the festival at the Park at City Center will kick off at 11 a.m. and will feature food, arts & crafts, a free concert with Steve Phillips & Midnight Express, kids activities and more.

Other road closures scheduled during the downtown events include: Main Street at the old Wal-Mart/Brands for Less Furniture Store, Main Sreet at Serenade Lane, Main Street at Bowles Drive, Main Street at Ingram Street, Main Street at Barnesdale Terrace, Main Street at Dupree Road, Main Street at Noonday Street, Main Street at Oak Street, Main Street at Mill Street, Main Street at Rope Mill Road and Main Street at Dobbs Road.

At sunset, the city will kick off its fireworks display at the Woodstock Square Shopping Center on Woodstock Square Avenue at Highway 92.

After the fireworks, Woodstock Police will ask motorists to:

• All traffic parked south of Highway 92 (including Super Target, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Lowe’s, Molly Lane and Woodstock Square Avenue) will be directed to turn right onto Highway 92 and travel east.
• All traffic parked north of Highway 92 (including The Home Depot, Big Lots, Hennessey Honda, and IHOP) will be directed to turn right onto Highway 92 and travel west.
• No left turns or U-turns will be permitted on Highway 92 during or after the scheduled event until the streets and parking lots are clear.

Sign boards will be present at exits to assist motorists with direction of travel.
