Woodstock High Work-Based Learning Takes Trip Down Memory Lane

WOODSTOCK, GA — Students from Woodstock High School’s Work-Based Learning Program (WBL) are finishing up their CCSD educational experience right where it all started 13 years ago for many of them - at Woodstock Elementary School. The elementary school’s After School Program employs nine WBL students, and seven of them are former WES students.

Woodstock High student Morgan Lawley said she was thrilled to earn a spot working at her former elementary school, adding that the experience has influenced her career path.

“After graduation, I want to be a special education teacher and hope to be able to return to WES,” she said.

CCSD’s Work-Based Learning and Youth Apprenticeship Programs prepare high school juniors and seniors for the world of work through a combination of academic and workplace learning. The work experience is supplemented with instruction and activities that apply, reinforce, refine, or extend the learning that occurs during work, so that learners develop attitudes, knowledge, skills, and habits that might not develop solely from work experiences. Work-Based Learning combines experience-based learning, skill-based learning, and knowledge-based learning, which provides a solid foundation for life-long learning and success.

“The Work Based Learning students take pride in their job at WES,” Woodstock ES bookkeeper Christine Rea said. “They show up on time and take excellent care of the students who stay in the After School Program. The students in ASP at Woodstock Elementary School look up the WBL students like big brothers and sisters.”
