Woodstock Opens Registration For Citizens Public Safety Academy

The academy is a series of educational classes designed to inform citizens about various aspects of the police and fire professions

The Woodstock Police Department is now accepting applications for the Spring 2015 Citizens’ Public Safety Academy,

The academy, which will begin on Thursday, Feb. 26, is a series of educational classes designed to enhance the citizen’s understanding of various aspects of the police and fire professions.

The program also works to strengthen the relationship between the citizens and the Woodstock Police and Fire departments, as well as spotlight the responsibilities of public safety personnel and the inherent risks associated with the professions.

Some of the classes offered during this series are: domestic violence response, criminal investigation procedures, crime prevention, SWAT demonstrations, fire safety and fire prevention.

The class will also take tours of Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, Cherokee County E-911 Center and the Woodstock Fire Department.

The classes will be held at Magnolia Hall (108 Arnold Mill Road) each Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 26 through May 7.

Anyone who lives, works, or has an expressed interest in the city can apply. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age and submit to a background investigation prior to acceptance in the program. Once accepted, positions are awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

Applications are available at the Woodstock Police Department at 12453 Highway 92 or on the police department’s website.
