The initiative launched in 2014 in an effort to add another layer of safety and security on city trails.
Volunteers of the program promote safety and appropriate trail use by providing information and assistance to all trail users.

They also observe and document trail safety issues requiring attention, serve as a positive presence on the trails and assist the Woodstock Parks and Recreation and Woodstock Police departments to keep the paths safe and well maintained.
“The Trail Watch Volunteers assist the city of Woodstock in keeping our 20+ miles of trails safe and enjoyable for all,” said Woodstock Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser said. “Volunteers, ages 18 and older, will be trained in trail etiquette and safety and security reporting procedures. They will not be asked to intervene in potentially dangerous situations, only report them.”
Pooser stated the program is like a Neighborhood Watch program for the city’s trails. Volunteers are identified by a brightly colored vest or t-shirt and a city-issued identification card. They serve as “extra eyes and ears” on the trails, Pooser added.
Trail Watch volunteers must be 18 years of age, complete a successful background check and attend a mandatory training class.
The next Trail Watch Academy Class is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Parks and Recreation administrative offices located behind FoxTale Book Shoppe at 105 East Main Street Suite 146.
For more information or to sign up, contact the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department at (770) 517-6788.
