Kailua road rage shooting suspect arrested for attempted murder (staradvertiser.com) — Police say a 56-year-old man was arrested after a road rage confrontation in Kailua where a shot was fired at another vehicle near Oneawa Street and Mokapu Boulevard, striking only the car. No injuries were reported, and investigators are asking anyone with information to call 911 or CrimeStoppers as the case remains open.
   

2. Kailua Fourth of July fireworks show returns with free shuttle service (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Kailua’s Fourth of July fireworks are back at Kailua Beach, with free shuttles running between Lau Hala Shops’ parking garage and Kailua Beach Center from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Attendees can park at A&B shopping centers in Kailua Town, but organizers stress using only legal parking and catching the final return shuttle at 10:30 p.m.

Hawaii commemoration of America's birthday funded on a shoestring (staradvertiser.com) — Hawaii’s America250 commission is stretching a small budget to mark the nation’s 250th birthday, including sending a large marching unit to a major Fourth of July parade in Kailua expected to draw up to 15,000 people. Volunteers are also organizing statewide Declaration of Independence readings on July 8 and distributing America250 flags and magnets at parades and fireworks shows.

UH: Pueo deaths in Hawaiʻi primarily caused by vehicle collisions : Maui Now (mauinow.com) — Researchers found that most deaths of native pueo owls in Hawaiʻi are caused by vehicle collisions, including in areas like wetlands near Kailua on Oʻahu. A 32-year statewide review of 242 cases showed trauma, especially from cars and some wind turbines, as the leading cause, often combined with parasites or rodenticide exposure. Scientists say better awareness and targeted management could reduce preventable owl deaths.
