Feedback is open through July 1 and can be submitted online, by email, mail, or in person at the Lahaina Resource Center on Keawe Street or the Kakoʻo Maui center in Kahului.

2. Community kākoʻo brings Ka Malu site to life in Lahaina (ksbe.edu) — Community volunteers and Kamehameha Schools are transforming the Ka Malu site in Kuʻia, Lahaina, by planting native and Polynesian-introduced trees and restoring ʻāina long altered by plantation-era impacts. Recent workdays have drawn Lahaina residents and students who help with irrigation, invasive removal, and new plantings, while plans advance for medicinal gardens, native flowering trees, and educational signage from ma uka to ma kai.

3. First-of-its-kind mass timber home built in Lahaina (hawaiipublicradio.org) — A new mass timber “Bunkhouse” is rising in Lahaina to house volunteers rebuilding homes after the wildfires, with completion expected in August. Designed for quick assembly and future conversion to affordable housing, the project also trains hundreds of local carpenter apprentices, aiming to speed Lahaina’s recovery while strengthening Maui’s construction workforce.

4. HDOT starting preliminary environmental studies for Lahaina Bypass Phase 1C : Maui Now (mauinow.com) — Lahaina residents can expect a major extension of the Lahaina Bypass, with environmental studies now underway for a new three-mile northern segment from Keawe Street to Kakaʻalaneo Drive. Funded partly by $100 million in federal wildfire disaster money, construction is targeted to start in 2028 and finish by late 2030, with public meetings planned in early July to gather community input.

News Release – Hawaiʻi Selected for Behavioral Health Clinic Medicaid Demonstration Program (hawaii.gov) — Lahaina’s state-run adult mental health clinic on Maui is slated to become a fully certified Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic by January 1, 2027, expanding coordinated services for local residents. Hawaiʻi has been chosen for a federal Medicaid demonstration that will bring sustainable funding for crisis care, substance use treatment, and long-term recovery support across the islands, including Lahaina and Kahului.
