• USGS Volcano Notice - DOI-USGS-HVO-2026-06-02T00:33:02+00:00 (usgs.gov) — Kīlauea’s latest lava-fountaining episode has paused, but ash, Pele’s hair, and vog recently reached Volcano village and nearby subdivisions, prompting health and safety advisories. USGS reports millions of cubic yards of lava erupted within Halemaʻumaʻu, with tephra falling across Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and along Highway 11, while officials urge residents to limit exposure and secure water catchment systems.
   

• It Takes A Village To Help Big Island Residents Drive Less (newsfromthestates.com) — Hawaiʻi County’s new General Plan 2045 could eventually change daily life in Volcano by aiming to cut long drive times through better buses, more walkable communities, and added housing near services. Councilmember Michelle Galimba’s district specifically includes Volcano, meaning local voices will matter as the county weighs transit upgrades, village-style development, and safer bike and walking routes islandwide.
   

• Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center launching a charitable foundation : Big Island Now (bigislandnow.com) — Residents in Volcano are specifically named among communities the new Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Foundation aims to support with better access to care, transportation, and childcare. The foundation, run by Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center, will fund patient rides, keiki support, and healing art, with plans to expand rural services over time. Donations are tax-deductible via hichc.org.
