• Hawaii Senate vice president announces retirement (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Residents in the Waipahu portion of Senate District 18 will soon see a new state senator, as longtime Sen. Michelle Kidani is retiring June 30 after 18 years in office. Kidani, who has represented Mililani, Waipio Gentry, Waikele, part of Waipahu, Village Park and Royal Kunia, cited health considerations and highlighted her work on public education and student well-being. Local Democrats will nominate three potential successors for the governor to appoint.
