1. Petco Love and Snake River Animal Shelter offer free vaccine event Saturday (idahopress.com) — Idaho Falls pet owners can get free core vaccines and microchips for their cats and dogs this Saturday at Snake River Animal Shelter, thanks to Petco Love's national initiative. The clinic runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with services first-come, first-served and low-cost rabies and bordetella shots also available.
   

2. Bonneville High School victim of malicious hoax phone call (postregister.com) — Students and staff at Bonneville High in Idaho Falls briefly sheltered under a Hall Check Wednesday after a swatting call falsely reported a threat near campus. Deputies quickly determined there was no real danger, classes continued, and the precautionary status was lifted about 45 minutes later while the investigation proceeds.
   

3. Snake River Animal Shelter holds campaign for free adoptions (eastidahonews.com) — Idaho Falls pet lovers can adopt cats and dogs for free during several upcoming weekends at Snake River Animal Shelter, thanks to an ASPCA-funded Rescue Effect campaign. The shelter's kennels are full, and waived fees cover spay or neuter, microchip, and vaccinations, making pets ready to go home immediately. Adults can also apply online to volunteer and help care for animals.
   

4. Hillcrest survives red card to defeat Skyline 2-1 in girls soccer (localnews8.com) — Idaho Falls soccer fans saw Hillcrest edge Skyline 2-1 at Ravsten Stadium, even after a red card forced the Knights to play short-handed. A backup keeper stepped up with key saves, and a late Skyline goal wasn't enough to spoil Hillcrest's still-undefeated season.
   

5. BLM to conduct controlled burns in Eastern Idaho (postregister.com) — Residents in the Idaho Falls area should expect smoke this fall as the BLM's Idaho Falls District plans prescribed burns on about 1,500 acres across central and eastern Idaho, including projects near Heise and Shotgun Valley. From Sept. 30 through Dec. 30, crews will burn under specific weather conditions to reduce wildfire fuel, then patrol and monitor each site for safety.
