ILLINOIS — For those thinking there are a lot of farmers markets in this state, you are correct. According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois ranks third in the nation for the number of farmers markets.

While many local markets don't start their season until May and June, some are set to sell farm-fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and much more in the next few weeks. Some have even already opened.

As we do annualy, Patch has put together a list of some of the popular farmers markets in our coverage area, which is Chicagoland and the suburbs. With dozens and dozens of farmers markets throughout the area, we admit that we may not have your favorite one listed. Just let us know by emailing eric.degrechie@patch.com and we'll add it. Enjoy the markets!
