1 In Custody After Threatening Cops In LITH: Police

The incident drew a huge police presence to Harvest Gate in Lake in the Hills Friday.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL – A 27-year-old man is in custody after threatening officers outside a residence on Harvest Gate Friday afternoon. Garrett Kowalczyk, who was reportedly intoxicated, made the threat but never displayed a weapon and then retreated back into the residence in the 100 block of Harvest Gate at about 4:07 p.m., Ashley Eccles, communications coordinator for the Lake in the Hills Police Department, told Patch in an e-mail response.

The McHenry County SWAT team and six other area police departments assisted at the scene, creating a huge police presence in the area. Authorities also closed down Polaris Drive and Harvest Gate for almost six hours as authorities dealt with the situation.

Authorities sent out a Nixle e-mail alert to avoid the area due to “police activity.”
