1 Gunned Down In West Dundee Gym Parking Lot

Authorities say the shooting may be connected to a Sunday shooting at an apartment in Elgin.

WEST DUNDEE, IL — A man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a West Dundee gym Thursday evening in West Dundee.

The West Dundee Police Department was called to the Esporta Fitness, 400 N. 8th St., at 5:24 p.m. and found the man who had been shot in the parking lot, according to a news release from police. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Dundee Sgt. Dan Haines told the Daily Herald the shooting may be connected to a fatal shooting that happened at an apartment complex early Sunday in Elgin.

The Sunday shooting happened during a gathering at Blackhawk Apartments, whereJaysin Rodriguez, 19, and Jonathan King, 32, were killed, and four more people were injured. At the time, authorities said the shooting was also isolated.

On Wednesday, Elgin police did not provide any information to confirm any link between the Elgin and West Dundee shootings, the Daily Herald is reporting.

The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is assisting the West Dundee Police Department in the investigation of the Esporta Fitness shooting.
