13 Dogs Die In Barn Fire In Kane County

A homeowner who attempted to save the dogs from the fire was treated for smoke inhalation. The barn was deemed a total loss.

HAMPSHIRE, IL – Three adult Australian shepherd dogs and 10 puppies died Saturday night in a barn fire in Hampshire, according to media reports. The Hampshire Fire Protection District responded to the blaze at about 6:55 p.m. at 44W975 Berner Road. A homeowner tried to get the dogs out before fire crews arrived but was unsuccessful.

The owner was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, the Northwest Herald reported. The barn has been deemed a total loss, according to the Daily Herald.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
