6 Families Displaced, 2 Firefighters Injured in LITH Fire

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL - Six families have been displaced and two firefighters were injured in a fire Monday afternoon at a condominium complex in Lake in the Hills.

Fire crews were called to the two-story, multi-family residence at about 1:35 p.m. on Monday where they found smoke showing from the house and a small fire in the rear of the residence, according to a press release. Everyone was able to safely get out of the complex and no one was injured.

Firefighters declared the blaze out at 3:46 p.m. and crews remained on the scene until 5:30 p.m. investigating and ventilating the home, according to the news release. A damage estimate is not yet available and a cause for the fire has not yet been determined.

Two firefighters were transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.

The American Red Cross is assisting the six families who have been displaced because of the blaze.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, West Dundee, Rutland Dundee, Hoffman Estates, Elgin, Huntley, Pingree Grove, Marengo and Cary fire departments as well as the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
