Learn a New Language for Job Enhancement or for Fun at McHenry County College

Take a McHenry County College non-credit language classes for job enhancement or for fun. Classes include Sign Language, Italian, Spanish and Italian Culture.

Learn a language this summer for job enhancement or just for fun with a variety of classes offered by McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department. In addition to modern languages, beginning sign language is also offered.

The following classes are available:

Sign Language I: Participants will be introduced to fingerspelling and basic
survival signs that can be used in a variety of settings. The book for class
will be discussed at the first class session. This class is taught by a deaf
instructor. Class takes place from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 through August 20
in Room C121. Cost is $125. Use course ID: NFL S01 008 to register.

Italian I: Learn about Italian culture and the basics of expressing yourself in the
“Bella Lingua.” Focuses on basic but useful skills to be understood in Italy;
perfect for prospective tourists or for those that want to get back in touch
with their Italian roots in a fun and engaging way. The required textbook is
Espresso 1 Student Book by L. Ziglio and G. Rizzo, Alma Edizioni (available at www.deltapublishing.com for $35.90), ISBN: 9788861820531. Textbook must be purchased prior to the start of class; book is not available in the MCC Bookstore. Class takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 through August 6 in Room E102. Cost is $119. Italian Culture: An overview on Italian history and culture: Find out what really is
Italian and what is actually American-Italian, the history of the Italian
language and its dialects, an overview on regional foods and cultures, and the
truth behind some Italian stereotypes. Plus, learn about some of the best
touristic spots and get some tips on how to make the best of your Italian trip
and much more. Class takes place from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 through
July 3, in Room E105. Cost is $69.  Use course ID: NFL S15 008 to register.

Spanish I: Explore the basics of Spanish, including writing, speaking, pronunciation, listening, understanding, and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. Participants will use grammar, vocabulary and verbs in the most basic structure of the language. The required book is “Spanish Is Fun Book 1: Lively Lessons for Beginners” by Amsco School Publications, third edition, ISBN: 9781567654646. Textbook must be purchased prior to start of class; not available in the MCC Bookstore. Two different class times are offered; from 6-8:15 p.m. Tuesdays, June 11 through July 23 in Room A103 (night class course ID: NFL S05 017) and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, June 13 through August 8 in Room A113 (morning class course ID: NFL S05 013).  Cost for either class is $109. Note: No class July 4.
