ComEd Picks Algonquin Holiday Event For Grant

A $2,500 grant has been awarded to the village of Algonquin to help offset costs for the Miracle on Main event.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Algonquin has been selected by ComEd to receive a $2,500 grant to help pay for the village's Miracle on Main event.

ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus announced Tuesday that Algonquin, along with nine other northern Illinois communities, have been picked to receive grants as part of its inaugural ComEd Powering the Holidays Program, according to a news release.

The gran will pay for the Miracle on Main, which marks the start of the holiday season in the downtown district of Algonquin and includes visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, live reindeer, an ice-sculpting demonstration, community tables with projects, school singers and a tree lighting.ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus on Tuesday announced.

Powering the Holidays grants can be used for any community holiday lighting event held from Nov. 1 through Feb. 13, 2022. Municipalities, townships, counties and other local governments within the northern Illinois areas ComEd serves were eligible to apply, according to the news release.

“Our neighborhoods are rich in holiday lighting events that celebrate community identity and culture,” said Melissa Washington, senior vice president of governmental and external affairs at ComEd. “ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus are excited to support these events that provide residents with opportunities for interculture exchange and understanding.”

Powering the Holidays is an extension of ComEd’s long-time sponsorship of and support for holiday lighting events at Lincoln Park Zoo, Brookfield Zoo, The Morton Arboretum and Chicago Botanic Garden.

Other events and towns that received grants from ComEd include: Merry and Bright in Bartlett, Inclusive Holiday Lights Display in Hawthorn Woods, Homer for the Holidays in Homer Glen, Merry & Bright in Montgomery, Winter Lights at Central Park in Oak Brook and the Holiday Lights Festival in Romeoville.
