District 158 Athletes Test Positive For COVID-19

Members of the freshman boys basketball and freshman boys football teams have been told to quarantine.

HUNTLEY, IL — Contact days for the Huntley High School freshman football and freshman boys basketball teams have been called off and members of both teams have been told to quarantine for 14 days after "a small number of individuals" tested positive for COVID-19, the Daily Herald is reporting. The boys on both teams were potentially exposed to the virus between Sept. 26 and Oct. 1.

Parents of the athletes were notified on Oct. 1 and were told to have their children quarantine through Oct. 15. The McHenry County Department of Health is investigating the positive COVID-19 cases and conducting contact tracing, according to the article.

Football, which state officials this past summer labeled as at a high risk for COVID-19, was moved from the fall to spring. But under guidelines set up by the Illinois High School Association, teams that are not in-season can have 20 contact days during the fall to allow teams to practice.

During the contact days, players are supposed to wear masks inside at all times and outside when they are not allowed to practice safe social distancing, according to the IHSA.
