Fox Lake Hires Former Algonquin Police Chief to Bring 'Leadership, Stability'

Russell Laine has agreed to a one-year contract with the village of Fox Lake, according to media reports.

FOX LAKE, IL - Former Algonquin Police Chief Russell Laine has been selected to serve as the interim police chief for the village of Fox Lake, according to the Northwest Herald. Laine will replace Michael Keller, a deputy chief with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, who has been serving on an ”on-loan” basis following a rocky couple months for the police department.

Fox Lake has been without a police chief since August when former Chief Michael Behan announced his retirement after he was placed on leave during an investigation into how the department handled a scuffle between an officer and a man in 2014, the Lake County News Sun reports. Days after Behan left the department, Fox Lake Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was found fatally shot.

Laine retired from the Algonquin Police Department in December 2014 after nearly 30 years as the top cop for the village.
