Lake In The Hills Shopping Center Going Up For Auction
An online auction will go live from Feb. 26 to 28 for the Centre in Lake in the Hills, which formerly housed a Dominick's grocery store.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL – The shopping center that formerly housed the Dominick's in Lake in the Hills will go up for auction later next month. Bids will start at $1.2 million for the Centre at Lake in the Hills, which is located at the corner of Algonquin and Randall roads. Meanwhile, village officials say they are not sure if Aldi's will be moving into the 17,000-square-foot vacant space formerly occupied by Dominick's.
Bidding for the online auction will be held from Feb. 26 to Feb. 28, according to Ten-X Commercial. The shopping center, which has nearly 100,000 square feet of space, is currently only 17 percent occupied. The biggest vacancy in the center came when Dominick's closed in December 2013, leaving over 72,000 square feet of empty space. Tenants currently operating within the building include GNC, H&R Block and a Miracle Ear.
Meanwhile, village officials are unsure if Aldi would be bringing one of its prototype stores into 22,000 square feet of empty Dominick's space.

Economic development coordinator George Hahne told the Northwest Herald he believed the grocer wants to see who the new owner of the shopping center will be before signing a lease. The prototype stores are generally larger than a typical Aldi store and include a meat counter and more selections in the liquor department, Economic Development Coordinator George Hahne told the Northwest Herald last June.
But with an Aldi already right down the road in Algonquin, village officials said Aldi is unsure if they want to commit to the Dominick's space. Lake in the Hills Trustee David McPhee told the Northwest Herald Aldi owners were "combating themselves and questioning if the Dominkck's space was the appropriate location."

“With the right owner and right tenants over there, we could bring in a lot of sales tax and do very good things for the village itself, like being able to continue and maintain not increasing property taxes,” Lake in the Hills Village Trustee David McPhee told the Northwest Herald.
Ten-X Commercial will be offering tours of the property leading up to the auction. The tours will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 7 and from 12 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 14. Prior to Aldi eyeing the property, Big R, which sells hunting and fishing equipment, lawn and gardening tools and sporting goods, showed an interest in opening a department store at the location in 2016. The retailer later backed out, village officials told the Northwest Herald in August 2016.
