LITH Police See Spike in Burglaries From Cars
Items of value have been stolen from cars in town, according to Lake in the Hills police.
LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Authorities are again reminding residents to lock their car doors as they have received several complaints of items stolen from vehicles. The Lake in the Hills Police Department is currently investigating "multiple complaints" and officers have received reports of people entering cars and stealing "items of value," according to information provided by police last week. In an effort to additional burglaries from motor vehicles, authorities are offering the following tips and reminders:
- Lock the doors to your vehicle at all times
- Remove valuable items from your vehicle
- Remove electronics (along with their holders)
- Attempt to park your car in a well-lit location
- If you park your vehicle in a garage, lock all entry doors and windows to the garage
- If you park outside, bring your garage door opener inside
- Should you notice your vehicle has been burglarized, notify authorities immediately
- Report suspicious persons, vehicles or activity while it is occurring
"While the Police Department will do everything we can to stop these crimes, we need your assistance. By locking your doors you minimize the chances of becoming a victim," authorities said.
