Man, 25, Killed In McHenry Co. Crash Thursday Night

The two-car collision happened at about 10 p.m. near Harvard, authorities said.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 25-year-old Harvard man has died following a two-vehicle crash near Harvard Thursday night.

Authorities say the man, whose name has not yet been released, was driving a 2009 maroon Honda Civic west on Route 173 west of Altenburg Road at about 10 p.m. when the car swerved into the eastbound lanes of traffic, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

The Honda, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, collided head-on with a 2005 blue Nissan Frontier, which was eastbound on Route 173, according to authorities.

The driver of the Honda died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening and was taken to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford. Illinois Route 173 between Altenburg Road and Harvard Hills Road was closed for about seven hours following the crash.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the crash.
