Man Attacks Woman, Her Cat: Police

A Lake in the Hills man faces charges following a Friday attack at his home.

LAKE IN THE HILL, IL -- A 25-year-old Lake in the Hills man who is accused of attacking a woman he knew and injuring her cat is expected back in court on Friday. Matthew W. Kasper, of the 1100 block of Heartland Gate in Lake in the Hills, was arrested on New Year’s Day and released the next day after making bond, according to online jail records. He is charged with cruelty to animals, criminal damage to property, domestic battery, aggravated fleeing, reckless driving and illegal possession of ammunition in connection with the Dec. 28 incident.

On Friday, Kasper allegedly pushed a woman he knew against a parked vehicle at his home on before pushing her to ground. When she tried to call police, he took her cell phone and broke it. He then turned on the woman’s cat, throwing the animal onto the pavement. The cat ended up being treated a veterinarian’s office for injuries sustained during the attack, according to the Northwest Herald.

Kasper then fled the scene. Police said he was in possession of ammunition during the incident but did not have a firearm owner’s identification card, according to the article.

A warrant was issued for Kasper’s arrest and he was taken into custody on Jan. 1, according to online jail records. He was released on Jan. 2 from jail.

Kasper is next expected in court on Friday for a hearing.
