KANE COUNTY, IL – A Huntley man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his sixth DUI offense, prosecutors said. Richard W. Broz, 59, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated DUI, a Class X felony, on Aug. 3 as part of a plea deal, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. Broz's blood alcohol concentration was over three times the legal limit when he allegedly drove his motorcycle drunk in November 2016 and crashed into a tree along Russell Road in Plato Township, which is west of Elgin.
Prosecutors said the crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2016. Broz was driving southwest on Russell Road when his motorcycle went off the road, "bounced off a tree," and became entangled in barbed-wire fence.
A witness found Broz a short time later slumped over the motorcycle with his legs tangled in the handlebars. Paramedics needed an hour to free Broz from the barbed wire. About two hours after the crash, medical personnel at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin measured Broz’s blood-alcohol concentration at .246 percent, prosecutors said.
