Man Guilty of Sexually Assaulting Child He Knew

A Kane County judge found Jesus Bermudez, 37, guilty of predatory sexual assault of a child.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A Carpentersville man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a child he knew. On Wednesday, Kane County Circuit Judge Donald M. Tegeler, Jr., found Jesus Bermudez, 37, guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, Class X felony. Bermudez waived his right to a jury trial, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors say Bermudez sexually assaulted the victim, who was younger than 13 years old at the time, in 2005. Bermudez knew the victim.

Bermudez, of the 100 block of Hook Road in Carpentrsville, is next expected in court on Aug. 15 for sentencing. Bermudez faces between 6 and 30 years in prison.

In addition to the prison term, Bermudez must register for life as a sexual offender.
