Support Businesses During Old Town Construction: Schmitt

Village Board President John Schmitt shared an update regarding the downtown project. And encouraged residents to frequent businesses.

ALGONQUIN, IL -- Algonquin Village Board President John Schmitt recently submitted the below Letter to the Editor regarding improvements to the village's downtown. Construction is underway on Old Town Algonquin.

Here is Schmitt's Letter to the Editor:

Old Town Algonquin is the center of our Village’s heritage, and the Main Street corridor project will transform the area into a thriving destination for residents and visitors to shop, dine and gather.
Main Street is becoming a beautiful, pedestrian friendly environment that preserves the character and history of the area. We’re replacing century-old infrastructure while improving the look and feel of the corridor by incorporating gathering spaces, increasing pedestrian safety and introducing “green” elements.
We recognize that significant improvement projects like this one can cause headaches and we appreciate the understanding of our local businesses and residents as we work to improve the Main Street corridor for generations to come.
We want to do our best to minimize the negative impact of the project, so we’ve taken steps to ensure businesses can remain open throughout construction. We’ve worked with business owners to increase directional and informational signage to preserve road safety and help drivers find parking spots. We’re making sure residents and businesses have access to the latest project details and progress, through our website (OldTownAlgonquin.org), social media and bi-weekly “Coffee with the Contractor” events.
As the signs throughout the Village tell us, downtown Algonquin is open for business. As we go through this improvement project together, we’re encouraging our residents to come to Main Street to support the local shops and restaurants that make Old Town Algonquin special.
We’re excited about the future of Main Street and appreciate our residents’ support and understanding as we make these forward-looking improvements.

Schmitt also shared some artist renderings of the downtown Algonquin project.
